Most dog breeds have certain diseases that are more common than others. Cane Corso is unfortunately no exception. But there are a lot of statistics that show what the biggest problem areas are.

In order for the next generation Cane Corso to be even better than we, we who work with breeding must take into account the knowledge that exists and follow the regulations that govern breeding. The Swedish Board of Agriculture & the Swedish Kennel Club have a set of rules we must follow and RACC has a number of recommendations that we hope will contribute to the correct selection of breeding animals.

The Swedish Board of Agriculture's regulations state that it is forbidden to use dogs in breeding if they  is not in good physical or mental health,  have diseases or disabilities that offspring are at risk of inheriting,  are overly scared or aggressive or can not reproduce naturally.

In SKK's registration rules, you can see which breeds are covered by health programs. The goal of the health program is to eventually eliminate the specific defect of the breed. After a number of years, the programs are evaluated. If the work has been successful, the program can be terminated.

Physically and mentally healthy dogs

There are health programs for both physical and mental health, as well as programs that limit the use of an individual breeding animal (the dog may become a parent only to a certain number of litters). In SKK's registration rules, you can see which breeds are covered by health programs. The goal of the health program is to eventually eliminate the specific defect of the breed. After a number of years, the programs are evaluated. If the work has been successful, the program can be terminated.

Cane Corso has a level 3 health program for HD and an index.

  • Swedish parent animals may have HD grade A - C

  • Foreign breeding animals must have HD grade A or B.

  • Dogs with hip status D or E may not be used in breeding, regardless of HD index

Recommendation:

  • The average HD index of parent animals at the time of mating should be higher than 100

Cane Corso has a level 2 health program for ED and an index.

  • Both parent animals in the breeding combination have been approved by SKK officially read ED results

  • Foreign breeding animals  must have known ED status

Recommendation:

  • The average ED index of the parent animals at the time of mating should be greater than 100

MENTALITY

Cane Corso is basically a farm and guard dog that must possess versatile working qualities, the breeders are expected to pursue a breed to promote all the distinctive features of the breed: type, mentality, willingness to work.

What personality does your dog have? Is it playful, confident, energetic, happy in people? Not all dogs and dog breeds are the same. We choose our favorite breed precisely for its special ways and characteristics. By participating with your dog at BPH, you get to know it a little better while we all gain increased knowledge about the similarities and differences of our dog breeds.

  • Breeding animals in Sweden must have completed BPH before mating and for foreign breeding animals they must have passed an approved mental test in their home country. Both bitch and male must therefore have known mental status so that the offspring can be registered in the Swedish Kennel Club.
